PT Sinar Hijau Ventures, SHV, continues to strengthen collaboration between industry and universities to accelerate sustainable spice downstreaming. In February 2026, SHV welcomed academic teams from Universitas Jenderal Soedirman, UNSOED, and Universitas Ibn Khaldun, UIKA Bogor, to Seram Barat, Maluku. The visit extended beyond formal meetings. The team travelled directly to spice-producing villages to review production processes from upstream to downstream, observe post-harvest practices, engage with farmers, and assess technology needs and production system improvements based on real field conditions.
Precision Cold-Press and Digital Traceability for Nutmeg
SHV’s collaboration with UNSOED expands its downstream focus on nutmeg. Through the Program Hiliriset – Ajakan Industri, both parties are developing precision cold-press technology to produce premium nutmeg butter with consistent aroma and texture. This initiative combines UNSOED’s expertise in food technology, AI, and IoT with SHV’s experience in sustainable production and farmer empowerment in Maluku.
The research is structured in three stages. The first stage develops precision cold-press machines, solar-powered dryers, and sensor-based quality control systems. The second stage focuses on industrial validation and product stability testing at SHV facilities. The third stage integrates a digital traceability system to ensure full supply chain transparency from farmers to end consumers. The system supports Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points, HACCP, standards and strengthens confidence in both domestic premium and export markets.
Applied Research for Halal Kenari Oil
Together with UIKA, SHV is implementing the Program Hiliriset – Ajakan Industri to optimize modern extraction technology for kenari oil with halal assurance. The research aims to increase yield and improve product quality while strengthening kenari’s position as a halal Indonesian commodity for the food and cosmetics sectors.
UIKA involves industry from the beginning of the research process. SHV provides product specifications and quality standards aligned with market demand. The study evaluates oil characteristics including quality, stability, sensory profile, and potential health benefits. This approach establishes a strong scientific foundation to position kenari oil as a premium product rooted in Maluku’s local resources.
Strengthening Value Addition from Upstream to Downstream
For SHV, research directly supports market access strategies for forest communities in Eastern Indonesia. Small-scale production hubs built near forest areas ensure processing takes place close to raw material sources. This model protects quality, improves efficiency, and enables communities to capture greater value rather than selling unprocessed commodities.
The collaboration with UNSOED and UIKA reflects clear integration between research, technology, and field realities. Precision cold-press nutmeg butter and innovative halal kenari oil demonstrate that Maluku’s local commodities are ready to compete in premium markets. Through these partnerships, SHV strengthens transparent production systems, supports farmer livelihoods, and delivers Indonesian spices with consistent quality and global competitiveness.
