Unpatti Signs Collaboration with PT Sinar Hijau: Strengthening Community-Based Agriculture Through University Collaboration

This collaboration encompasses the development of the Tridharma of Higher Education—education, research, and community service—as well as activities in the agricultural industry grounded in social and economic balance.

Dr. Ruslan H. S. Tawari, S.Pi, M.Si, Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation, and Information Systems, represented the Rector of Pattimura University at the event.

He stated that this partnership aligns with the spirit promoted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) through the “Impactful Science and Technology for Higher Education” program, aimed at creating graduates who are both knowledgeable and skilled.

“Education is not only about knowledge but also about skills. Through this partnership, we are paving the way for students to develop both,” said Dr. Tawari.

He further emphasized that Pattimura University is continuously striving to establish strategic partnerships as part of its commitment to improving human resources in Maluku.

“This MoU strengthens the implementation of Tridharma and expands impact in the community-based agricultural industry,” he added.

Dessi Yuliana, Director of PT Sinar Hijau, explained that her company is a social enterprise focused on empowering Indonesian farmers through fair and sustainable access to global markets.

“We develop agroforestry solutions that deliver economic benefits to communities while contributing to forest conservation,” Dessi explained.

She stated that PT Sinar Hijau is currently focused on the spice agriculture sector and social forestry management, working in partnership with smallholder farmers who have long served as forest ecosystem stewards.

“We hope this collaboration becomes a bridge between universities, farmers, and the global market—not only for economic improvement but also to create positive social and environmental impacts,” she said.

Through this partnership, Dessi hopes to see the emergence of local spice-based products that are not only economically valuable but also offer solutions for remote villages in Maluku.

“We thank Pattimura University for this partnership. May this collaboration contribute meaningfully to social and economic development in Eastern Indonesia,” she concluded.

At the same event, a follow-up cooperation agreement was also signed between PT Sinar Hijau and the Faculty of Agriculture of Pattimura University as a form of synergy to strengthen academia and industry through research and empowerment. (TM-01)
